Blogger recently added a feature where comments can be moderated individually so there is no need for the word-verification which gives some readers trouble. I just switched over today and hopefully it will let me keep out spam but let more people participate.

Hmmm, let me know how that works out. I have both moderation & verification on & it has cut down spam to 0 at this point. But if it works with just one I'd be happy to simplify accordingly.

It is my understanding that either one of them alone would cut spam on your blog to zero. With moderation, you would see potential posts one by one, and you just reject the spam (or whichever comments you didn't like... occasionally I've actually gotten spam which wasn't so terrible since it actually was either for a good cause or not totally inappropriate to the blog)..
With Verification, you keep out automated comment-generators.. but it also messes up some of the devices which allow visually impaired people to use the internet.
Also, in general verification just makes it a little bit more annoying for people to post comments.
