Narrated Anas:
Allah's Apostle said, "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, "O Allah's Apostle! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?" The Prophet said, "By preventing him from oppressing others."

I'm not sure what you mean. "By preventing him from oppressing others"?
It is my understanding that Ahl al Sunnah wal Jamaat are supposed to be VERY loathe to make takfir on people. A very sinful Muslim is still Muslim. You give them salaams. Visit them when they are sick. Pray over them when they are dead.
That doesn't mean you approve of what they do. You try to get them to stop.
I have an entry on the limits of iman in my side bar called "People of Direction" (translation of Ahl al-Qibla)
