Following up on old story, new tribes here is more information about New Tribes, the American evangelical missionary organization which is being expelled from Venezuela by Chavez. According to Prensa Latina, New Tribes may have been conducting experients which infected the indigenous population with a virus and led to about 80 deaths. I am not a proponent of violence, but my ex-husband used to say that killing missionaries should be legalized as cultural self-defense.

Can we say, "Turn around and take those small-pox blankets back to Jesus before I shoot you"?

There is an action movie in there somewhere. We just need to pitch it. Definitely starring Vin Diesel as the indigenous pissed guy who starts the war on missionaries. I'm an old school Vin fan since Pitch Black.

I'll just say missionary behavior is really problematic and leave it at that. There is a fuzzy line I think which is hard to draw. If members of one religion go to another place and live their life, and talk openly about their faith when asked (and occasionally when they aren't) should be sort of ok. But to primarily go just in order to change the beliefs of the people is messed up.
