Dune are some of my favorite books ever. And Star Wars had a lot of pretty Sufi (as well as Taoist and Buddhist) elements. I'm not gonna go on any insane "Yoda represents Al Khidr" tangents, but the links are there.

Yeah, I actually posted some links which contain that idea. There actually are alot of Star Wars/Islam connections (along with other religions too). It's actually kind of interesting.

i sent the guy in the first link the meaning of two words whose origin he couldnt figure out. one is based on fiqh (istislah) and one is based on the theory of the muslim vizierate (quizara tafwid, which comes from wizara tafwid). hope he adds them to the site!

three actually.

"kul wahad!", which is a term of amazement and exclamation in Dune.. is obviously a shortening of "qul huwallahu ahad" ("say, God is one"), which many ppl say in exclamation. the guy had thought it comes from "kul waahad" (every one), but that obviously has nothing to do with the way its used in Dune.

This guy also has a bunch of essays of atheism and communism in Star Trek. I feel like a geek knowing his site exists, and like more of one having read several articles, but it's still kinda cool

Von Anuram's site is totally awesome. I would also direct you to http://beyond.progressiveislam.org/
which is a forum for talking about Islam and Sci Fi. It's a bit quiet these days, and could use a shot in the arm. You could also check out my blog, warped galaxies. I've got a lot of different stuff on there -- Islam, politics, and scifi being my three hot topics.

If you haven't read Terrorists of Irustan, by Louise Marley, I highly recommend it.
