Islam is at the heart of an emerging global anti-hegemonic culture that combines diasporic and local cultural elements, and blends Arab, Islamic, black and Hispanic factors to generate "a revolutionary black, Asian and Hispanic globalization, with its own dynamic counter-modernity constructed in order to fight global imperialism. the crayon people
The Crayon People is an interesting site with news for people of color (arab, asian, black, indigenous, latino, south asian). It is a bit weird that the groups are "segregated" the way they are. i guess they imagine a neat box of crayons where each color is individually wrapped. It reminds me of how when I was little I liked melting crayons on the radiator with my friends.

One comment on the divided colors. I think we are taking a ethic pluralism stance. Basically, acknowledging the fact that every ethnic group in america is unique and different, yet on the People of Color page all of the news is intermingled and there for all People of Color to read.
We look at it as trying to promote unity between different groups of color while also celebrating each one's uniqueness.
For those that come from a multicultural background, you have the option to going to individual group pages of your choice or just to stay on the People of Color page.
I know we dont have it down right, but its tough to please everyone when you are catering to "everyone". However, we are flexible and open to any ideas on improving our site that people may have.
So please let us know. And thanks for the shoutout!:)
to crayon people... yeah i understand... i don't mean to hate on the crayon imagery and make a big deal about it. it's cool. but i just tend to see different groups combining and interacting and relating in more complex ways.
lines and boundaries are porous. people and the spaces they occupy overlap. categories get defined and redefined over and over again in new situations...
anyway.. i really like the page. obviously there is some interesting synergy between our approaches. How about this... you send folks my way... and I'll send folks your way...
I absolutely 100% agree with what you are saying! Its definitely more complex that what we portray, I think we wanted to make things as simple and possible and have the users comments take it to the next level. But yeah, if you send me a 152x152 banner we will totally put it in rotation. It would be cool if you could put up a little banner for us too.
crayonpeople.com i appluad you for a blog dedicated on issues related to people of color but your response of "for those that come from a multicultural background..."
my argument is that for example almost all latinos do. It isn't a matter of coming from two parents of differnt racial/ethnic backgrounds but rather a history of hundreds of years of miscegenation...we (particluarly latinos) come in all colors, just like a box of crayons.
