Islam is at the heart of an emerging global anti-hegemonic culture that combines diasporic and local cultural elements, and blends Arab, Islamic, black and Hispanic factors to generate "a revolutionary black, Asian and Hispanic globalization, with its own dynamic counter-modernity constructed in order to fight global imperialism. taliyah al-mahdi
In the course of trying to find more about Amir Sulaiman online the name of this group came up. The Asian symbols in their logo makes me think of Dead Prez and their use of the I Ching. Here is their website for more info. I wish I knew more about them. The site is well written. They seem to be coming from a Shia perspective, which seems interesting. They have a set of "12 Points of Action" which includes a study of the world's spiritual traditions, physical and mental training, opposition to terrorism and a strong statement against sexism: "we wash our hands of the oppression of women throughout history and oppose all forms of domination of man over woman." I wonder how well they manage to implement this really positive-sounding program.
If anyone knows more about them, feel free to add a comment. (Actually, that should go for all the blog entries)

as salaam alaikum
just wanted to clarify should anyone misconstrue from the referencing of both Amir Sulaiman and Taliyah al-Mahdi, that in no way, shape or form is Amir Sulaiman a part of the Taliyah organization. The brother called me from the road, and asked me to post up a message to clarify this.
wa salaam
wa alaikum salaam,
Jazakallahukhair for clarifying. Taliyah al-Mahdi has some information about Amir Sulaiman's situation on their website. And they seem sympathetic to him. But that doesn't make him a member. And it doesn't mean that he necessarily believes everything that they believe. Or vice versa.

good blog...........
No `Ameer was only marginally involved for a short period of time when i was living in Ohio primarily. He had gotten interested because of a friend who was involved. `Ameer and i spoke for a bit now and then about Taliy`ah views and he requested the "Path of Perfection" lessons that was part of membership and/or becoming a member. Eventually he was invited to a majlis of the group and accepted. Over time however, he gravitated back towards views that he felt were inconsistent with those of the Taliy`ah; particularly those entirely Sunni from what i understand.
Either way though, there was never bad blood between any of us. i often updated his site as any friend would and we met up when he was in town in Southern California. Nevertheless, no he did not agree with the Taliy`ah views for more than a short period of time.
Salaam, Shalom, Shanti, Peace...
