Islam is at the heart of an emerging global anti-hegemonic culture that combines diasporic and local cultural elements, and blends Arab, Islamic, black and Hispanic factors to generate "a revolutionary black, Asian and Hispanic globalization, with its own dynamic counter-modernity constructed in order to fight global imperialism. yo soy un hombre sincero...
my heart is full of muslims trapped on a us base growing out of cuban soil
thanks. just given my background, and current events, it is an image that I've been mulling around in my head for a long time.
It is actually kind of ironic when when you think about it... Spain used to be an Islamic country and now Muslims are imprisoned in Latin America. Jose Marti wrote the words to Guantanamera which evokes at the same time freedom, love of country, the palm trees of cuba, the prisoners of guantanamo, the date palms of the middle east, etc. And in his other work Jose Marti actually plays with middle eastern themes (refered to in the entry "let us be moors")... it's all in there...
