Islam is at the heart of an emerging global anti-hegemonic culture that combines diasporic and local cultural elements, and blends Arab, Islamic, black and Hispanic factors to generate "a revolutionary black, Asian and Hispanic globalization, with its own dynamic counter-modernity constructed in order to fight global imperialism. (say what!)
hmmm.. I'm not a lawyer but I would assume that it wasn't a violation. Although, now that you mention it, I wonder if that would change if the event were government funded? In any case, my understanding is that the Constitution was mainly talking about having a formal religious requirement but this was simply a forum where candidates could talk about their faith/values. McCain was invited but didn't go. I think that the questions asked (e.g. about abortion, poverty, etc.) were mostly fair I think I agree om the sense that in an ideal world some of the questions are personal and deal with issues that the candidates shouldn't be made to address.
You are correct, and I've made the point on my blog, that Article VI is, like freedom of expression, etc. a restriction on the government rather than that of private parties. My problem is that what you get is a defacto "religious" test. So, for instance, what does Obama explaining 6 day creation have to do with the presidency? nothing. He ought not have even had to discuss that. Yet most of these same people, if asked the same question by, say, a private employer, would file a lawsuit for religious discrimination. It's hypocritical.
On that basis I strenuously object to this and any other forum like it.
I would like too take some time out thank the posters for doing what you do and make this community great im a long time reader and first time poster so i just wanted to say thanks.
Three word story is a game in which a story is built by multiple people, who use three words each turn. It is a common favorite of forum gamers, since it is easy to explain and play in a linear, structured fashion. An example game goes as follows: * A fat man... * ... walked into a... * ... car and it... * ... was very painful... * ... but he jumped... * ... back up and... * ... dug a really... * ... small cave that... * ... had two red... * ... cats coming out... * ... from some smoke... * ... though a blue... * ... streak speeds by... * ... forcing twenty wayward ... * ... evidences of fright...

As a strict Article VI person, my position is the forum ought not to have occured, nor should the candidates attended.
