black, but comely
Al-Ahram: Black, but comely by Gamal Nkrumah eulogizes the black Arab singer Tarfa Abdel-Kheir Adam, or Itab (her stage name).
Great article. My friends call the Black Kuwaitis Buwaitis. Some even have the swagger of African Americans. Call it globalization, or call it genetics, I dunno. I'm really interested in exploring the history of Afro-Arabs (as some scholars are calling them)
You might be interested in checking out the Third Resurrection group blog then. The members haven't updated it in a while, and the emphasis is more on African-American (or Blackamerican) orthodox Muslims. But we've definitely put things up there about people of AFrican-descent in the Arab/Muslim world.
